Last Day of Camp

I can't believe today is the last day of camp. Time goes so fast! The things I liked at webcamp were: writing blogs, learning about different types of web-based technology, how to add captions to downloaded movies or pictures,watching short web movies that were created by other camp members, creating my own website and talking to other members of the camp.

I think that there could be a few improvements. I think that there could be better resolution of the projector so that I could read what was being typed on the computer screen. Another thing that would be better would be if the instructor would talk a little bit more slowly so that it would be easier to follow suggestions.

I'm going to miss Nancy, Becca, Wendy, Andy, Laurie, Nicki, Sarah D. and Heidi because I felt like I almost developed a bit of a bond with all of them.

Playing with pictures

Today, I learned about a program which can be used to download pictures and change them to look like whatever you want. You can add color, you can take it away, make them look blurry, invert them, rotate them and even add them to web pages.

American Sign Language

I learned quite a lot about sign language today. Some people who are deaf can't speak, so they use sign language instead to communicate. Wendy and Jan taught us about some of the symbols which are used in sign language.

Here are a few symbols which I learned today:

the word "spaghetti" is shown as two index fingers making spirals
the word "bacon" is shown as two sets of fingers moving in "sizzling" motion while describing bacon strips
the word "juice" is shown as a pinky finger moving inward making the symbol for the letter "J"

My Birthday

Today is my birthday. I can't believe I'm 29 years old! My father bought a cake to share with the other members of the camp. It's only one more year until the big 3-0. My parents and I are going out for dinner tonight and then we're going to the airport to pick up a friend from Croatia who is staying for a while.

An Interview with Michael Macrae

Michael Macrae is a stickler for perfection.

His favourite hobby is reading and his favourite book is "A Clash Of Kings". A good book for Michael has good punctuation, grammar, a good plot, good characters and reasonably accessible language.

He likes the role-playing game "Dungeons & Dragons", because it has a fantasy aspect to it. He can pretend that he is a brave warrior battling a mighty dragon or a wizard casting a spell.

Michael also likes internet surfing. One of his most favourite sites is "snopes.com". It is a collection of urban legends. One of the funniest stories Michael discovered is a myth about drinking two much Coca-Cola and how it can cause death by carbon dioxide poisoning.

He also likes computer strategy games because he likes to use his brain to get a certain character out of difficult situations.

Portable Technology

Hello, my name is Paul Sakac. I was at a special session at Project Work this morning. There was a young woman named Lisa who talked about a special type of portable PC. This PC could do all kinds of things, like download music, take and store digital pictures, and can even "time" the songs that you listen to so that when all the songs are finished you won't miss your bus stop. It was all very interesting, but it went on for a little too long.

Hello. Welcome to my personal blog. My name is Paul and I am a Croatian-Canadian. Being a Croatian-Canadian is a mixed blessing because I like the people and the culture but I can't speak the language fluently.

This is how you would say "Hello, how are you?" in Croatian: "Bok, kako si?"
